Word for Today...Blessed Are the Waiters

Scripture:  And therefore will the LORD wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the LORD is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.  Isa 30:18

Blessed are ALL they that wait for him!

No, that was not a typo or misplaced phrase.  We may find it difficult to comprehend that waiting could be a blessing. We are living in a society that prefers not to wait. We don't like to wait for our food. We don't like to wait for the movie to start. We don't like to wait for answers to our questions. We do not like to wait for information.  While we don't like to wait, there is always a blessing for the waiters.  When I think about a restaurant waiter, I think about a person that takes an order and “waits” on the meal so as to deliver it to the customer and then “waits” to see if there is anything else the customer needs.  The waiter doesn’t walk away after delivering the meal never to return, but comes around every so often to make sure the customer is satisfied.  At the end of the meal if the waiter has done a good job, MOST of us will leave a 10%  or 15% tip to say to the waiter that we appreciate the hard work they did for us as customers.   (I only leave 10% because I don't give ANYONE more than I give Jesus)

In that same manner the “natural” waiter receives his/her reward after a job well done, so will those that wait on God.  We are blessed when we wait on the Lord because the Lord longs to be gracious to us. He doesn't just think about being gracious to us, He longs to be gracious. Sounds like He is looking for opportunities to be gracious to us. He longs to be gracious (kind and merciful) to us. He does not have to be gracious to us. We certainly do not deserve it. Yet, He longs to be gracious to us. That's worth waiting for!

We are blessed when we wait on the Lord because the Lord rises to show us compassion. Obviously the Lord never sleeps or slumbers according to Psalms 121:4, but this statement causes me to image the Lord getting up in the morning, and saying, "Well, let's see what can I do to show Donna how compassionate I am today? What can I do to show Donna how sympathetic I am as she goes through a difficult day? How can I show her how concerned I am about Donna and her family?"  The Amplified Bible explains it better: "He lifts Himself up, that He may have mercy on you and show loving-kindness to you." Sounds like He enjoys showing us compassion.   David said, “Wait on the Lord and be of good courage and He will strengthen your heart.  Wait I say on the Lord.”

As you wait for the Lord to do what the Lord longs to do, rises to do, and is His nature to do, look for Him, look for His victory, His favor, His love, His peace, His joy, and His matchless, unbroken companionship.

Be Blessed!
